Text to Speech Software is Theft

The Kindle 2 comes with a text-to-speech function that allows it to read a work aloud. The Author’s Guild is not happy about this.

“They don’t have the right to read a book out loud,” said Paul Aiken, executive director of the Authors Guild. “That’s an audio right, which is derivative under copyright law.”
