In honor of Banned Books week this Wednesday’s brown bag discussion will examine the career of Judith Krug, co-creator of Banned Books week.
Krug was appointed as the Director of the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom in 1967 and Executive Director of the Freedom to Read Foundation in 1969. She cofounded Banned Books Week in 1982. Ms. Krug died of stomach cancer in April 2009.
Using Krug’s career as a launching point we’ll have a round-table discussion about the important role librarians can play in promoting and defending intellectual freedom.
