Banned Books Week in Retrospect

First, I want to say WELL DONE Dave Davisson for holding the discussion Wednesday about Banned Books and Censorship. Well done indeed! What a lively discussion we had, and it was good to hear some unfamiliar voices on the subject. I wonder what faculty would have said if they were present at this….

Some interesting things about censorship that were highlighted this week: read this Wall Street Journal link. It is incredibly provocative and elicited this response from an ALA member found here. Give these both a read, I think they are really interesting if nothing else, and reiterates some of the sentiments expressed at the Brown Bag.

I hope we can continue to have such lively discussions that allow us to  think about issues, both historic and emerging, that make a big difference in intellectual freedom, and ultimately in the library world.
